AI-native operations
AI-native operations: redesign how the work gets done.
Operations, management, knowledge, customer experience and commercial performance, redesigned around AI.
Most companies are adding AI on top of the way they already work. AI-native companies redesign the work itself.
That is an operations question before it is a technology question, and it is the part we know best, because we run operating businesses ourselves, across hospitality, technology, brands and services.
The five areas we redesign
- Operations: Agents handle repetitive work, coordinate processes and surface exceptions.
- Management: Leaders get the information that matters without searching across six systems.
- Knowledge: Important information stops being buried in inboxes, WhatsApp threads and people's heads.
- Customer experience: AI helps the business respond faster, identify recurring issues and improve service.
- Commercial performance: AI identifies wasted labour, missed opportunities, slow sales processes, unnecessary cost and weak execution.
The AI operating layer
In a traditional company, information flows leadership to managers to people to software, and back up again, slowly. In an AI-native company there is an operating layer between leadership and the functions: agents and systems that handle the routine, hold the knowledge, and pass exceptions to the right human.
Nobody disappears. Operations, finance, sales, marketing and people teams still run their functions. They just do it with humans, agents and software working together instead of humans working around the software.
Where to start
One area, where the payback is clear and the team is ready. For most operating businesses that is admin-heavy management work: rotas, reporting, onboarding, enquiry handling. Prove the model there, measure it, then extend. The AI Opportunity Review tells you which area; the Transformation Sprint builds it.
Questions
- What is an AI operating model?
- A description of how the business runs once AI is part of it: what agents handle, what managers see, what humans keep, how exceptions move, where knowledge lives and how results are measured. It is the thing most AI projects skip, which is why most AI projects stall.
- Does this work for multi-site businesses?
- It works especially well there. Multi-site businesses carry the most duplicated admin and the most management time spent chasing information. But the same redesign applies to a single-site services firm, a marketplace or a wholesaler: our own businesses span all of those, and they were the first places we proved it.
